Psion Teklogix Integrates Newest UHF module from CAEN RFID
22.05.2008
Based on Intel’s latest chip technology, new module enhances multimedia capabilities of WORKABOUT PRO
Psion Teklogix announced the integration of the industry’s newest UHF (Ultra High-Frequency) module into its WORKABOUT PRO rugged handheld computer.
A powerful and flexible RFID reader, the new A528 UHF module from CAEN RFID, a leading supplier of UHF RFID systems, is a result of the joint effort of CAEN RFID and Intel. The A528 responds to customers’ need of a compact, easy to use, and reliable UHF reader, based on the most advanced technologies.
Its features make it the ideal reader for easy integration into multiregional RFID printers, label applicators, handheld devices and any other fixed or mobile device requiring UHF tag programming and reading.
The new UHF module uses the Intel UHF RFID Transceiver R1000 which delivers high performance with significantly lower power consumption. The Intel R1000 also supports a full range of reader form factors and applications, from short-range handheld readers to long-range dock door readers.
Combining the new UHF reader and the WORKABOUT PRO handheld computer enables Psion Teklogix to develop RFID solutions for a wider range of vertical markets worldwide. RFID-enabled terminals allow customers to significantly improve the efficiency and accuracy of their data collection across a wide range of applications.
“We’re delighted to continue to work with Psion Teklogix in our efforts to further boost the worldwide adoption of RFID technology,” said Giovanni Grieco, Sales Director of CAEN RFID. “The features of the Intel R1000 Transceiver enable us to increase the performances of our compact modules, thus providing a powerful and flexible module that will help meet the needs of Psion Teklogix mobile customers worldwide.”
“The new R1000-based reader allows us to provide our customers with a truly user-friendly, ergonomic solution,” said Pierre Bonnefoy, director of RFID solutions at Psion Teklogix.
“Integrated with our WORKABOUT PRO, the new UHF module can be used alongside other enabling technologies such as bar coding, imaging, Wi-Fi or GPRS to give customers the power to choose the right combinations for their applications.”
UHF RFID readers are used in a wide range of applications across vertical markets, including supply chain management, asset tracking, authentication and access control.
“The Intel R1000 is the industry leading UHF RFID transceiver chip. It integrates the vast majority of the radio components, enabling smaller reader designs that consume less power without sacrificing performance. With UHF RFID standards and regulatory requirements maturing worldwide and tag prices dropping, the introduction of state-of-the-art readers based on the Intel R1000 addresses one of the remaining obstacles to widespread adoption of UHF RFID – the need for innovative, high performing readers that support a wide range of end-user applications,” said Michael J. Reed, Intel RFID Operation general manager. “The A528 module from CAEN and the new WORKABOUT PRO handheld computer from Psion Teklogix are excellent examples of the innovation that Intel is fostering with the R1000.”
